The history of the council
By the 42th article in the law of local government announced in July 4th, 1949, the system of local government was began in 1952. However, the system was disorganized by the military revolution in May 16, 1961 until 1991.
Present local government system was announced by the law no. 4310 in December 31, 1990. According to the law, in March 26, 1991, national election for the local government was held, to open the first councils of Andong-si and Andong-gun. In January 5, 1995, unified council of Andong-si was opened due to the establishment of unified Andong-si by merging of Andong-si and Andong-gun in January 1, 1995.
In July 13, 1995, the second council was opened. The third council was opened in July 14, 1998, and the fourth was in July 8, 2002. Present council is the fifth council, opened in July 10, 2006, working for the development of local area and the better welfare of citizens. The tenure of the present council is until June 30, 2010.
